Blockchain Gaming Community Raises $1.4M to Aid Typhoon Victims

On Dec. 16, 2021, the typhoon Rai that went on for four days hit the Philippines, leaving 334 cities and municipalities in a state of calamity. The day after the typhoon hit the country, play-to-earn gaming group Yield Guild Games (YGG) participated in a donation drive to help the typhoon victims. According to YGG Philippines country manager Luis Buenaventura, donations reached $1.4 million.

Marshall Mathers III, most popularly known as Eminem, has now joined the “Bored Ape Yacht Club” (BAYC) by purchasing one of the non-fungible token (NFT) Bored Apes for $462,000 on OpenSea’s NFT marketplace. Eminem’s Bored Ape which has the nickname “EminApe,” depicts an ape dressed in a khaki army cap and a gold chain necklace that he wears in real life and has been officially added to his portfolio by OpenSea.

According to a report by the Library of Congress (LOC), the total number of countries banning crypto has more than doubled over the past three years. There are nine jurisdictions that have applied an absolute ban on crypto and 42 with an implicit ban. This is up from eight and 15, respectively, in 2018 when the report was first published.
