Singapore has started rolling out robots to patrol public areas with high foot traffic and deter undesirable social behaviours. For a three-week trial period beginning on Sunday, Sept 5, two patrol robots named Xavier will weave through the way of Toa Payoh to detect offences such as smoking in prohibited areas, illegal hawking, improperly bicycle parking, congregation of more than five people and motorised active mobility devices and motorcycles on footpaths.
This is a joint project of five public agencies, namely HTX (Home Team Science and Technology Agency), National Environment Agency, Land Transport Authority, Singapore Food Agency, and Housing & Development Board.
